Activities at RIT

IUCEE Regional Center, Islampur

2008 shall be recorded as a notable year in history of Indian technical education. Few American and Indian origin professors in US Universities joined hands with top Indian academic administrators and policy makers to transform the face of Indian technical education under the banner of Indo-US Collaboration for Engineering Education (IUCEE). 

IUCEE, as an icebreaking activity organized a series of training programs successively for three years for engineering faculty at UG & PG level entitled as Faculty Leadership Institute and were organized at Infosys, Mysore during 2008 to 2010.  RIT faculties have attended almost 50 different FLI’S on emerging areas since 2008 and they are proved to be very expedient for the students in this rapidly changing and competitive world.  

After successful completion of the FLIs, each faculty is implementing knowledge & techniques acquired through same on continuous basis in their teaching activities. Many faculties got confidence in selecting those areas for their research work. Because of efforts taken by them in doing the follow-up exercise of what they learnt, IUCEE leaders identified RIT as a "Regional Center" to promote its activities by various means. 

Our senior faculties attended workshops on pedagogy and took a challenge to train other faculties to change the class room dynamics for the better teaching-learning process. Because of IUCEE FLIs they got confidence of preparing outcomes based teaching plan and execute it effectively.   

IUCEE Coordinator, Dr. Krishna Vedula arranged a visit of Indian Educationalists to US Universities in November 2008. The prime objective of this study tour was to explore the opportunities to establish mutually rewarding relationships with Universities and institutes in the areas of joint programme offers, faculty and student exchange programmes, relevant research collaborations, graduate and doctoral research programme offerings. 

Mr. Bhagat Patil, Chairman, BOG; Principal Dr. Ms. S. S. Kulkarni and Prof. M. T. Telsang were among the team of 22 delegates. The delegation visited –

  • Purdue University, Indianapolis 
  • University of Southern California, Los Angeles 
  • University of Washington, Seattle 

This tour culminated in three MoUs of RIT with Purdue, UMass Lowell (Boston) and Lawrence Technological University. 

Webinars organized by IUCEE are excellent in all respect and the fringe benefit to students, faculties, HOD’s and Deans. Because of this, all faculties from RIT could able to interact with globally known eminent personalities and they are well conversant with Outcome Based Education (OBE) which is today’s prime requirement of today’s education world.

CAD/CAM/CAE centre

Centre is established by the institute under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The centre is established to conduct the skill based short term courses in the field of CAD/CAM/CAE, Product Design & Development.

In order to survive in the today's competitive market entrepreneur need to ensure that their products get designed and manufactured in the minimum possible time, and in the lowest possible cost, without compromising on the quality aspect. Therefore design, engineering and production department must work together in an integrated fashion. The advent of CAD/CAM/CAE has paved the way for highly flexible, accurate, fast and integrated approach for creating and manufacturing products and its components.

Quality Circles

Quality Circles have become a culture in the Institute. It has constantly supported our academic administration. R.I.T. is quite consistent and committed in this regard as it is experiencing the results of its implementation from last fifteen years. The institute is devising and implementing number of practices with an objective to empower academics and one of such Best Practices is ‘Quality Circles’ that is formed with faculty as its members. It started with activities like induction training of faculty and orientation of freshers. It went modifying its form to strengthen academic process. RIT being an institutional member of the Quality Circle Forum of India ( QCFI ), is known for its innovative ideas for quality circle activities in educational institute. 

 The institute has taken sincere efforts and proved over the years with the number of problems that are solved and the appreciation it has received, that quality circle is equally good in education, though the benefits are not of monetary nature. 

Recently, a quality circle of RIT received ‘Gold Medal Award’ for case study presentation at International Convention on Quality Control Circles ( ICQCC) 2007 at Bejing, China. 

The Quality Circle teams of R.I.T. have represented the institute twice at international level, four times at national level and five times at state level conventions and bagged several awards at these conventions.      

Student Counselling Cell


  1. To help the students to overcome examination stress or fear.
  2. To help the students facing depression caused by family problems, academic or any other problem.
  3. To help the students to make aware towards academic performance and motivate them to take part in various activities conducted by the institute
  4. To increase the number of students completing the course in four years with good academic record

  •  Globalization of business and tremendous potential for growth in service sector has opened a new era of opportunities for young technocrats, who are looking for opportunities to exploit their full potential by setting up their own ventures.
  • Objectives :
    Establish Entrepreneurship Cell which will include incubation centers for budding entrepreneurs.          
    Establish Business Information Process Cell.
  • To seek assistance from outside agencies & render the services to society to create self employment. 
  • For conducting Entrepreneurship development activities effectively, Institute has signed MoU with Maharashtra Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (MCED)Institute is  associate life member  of Small and Medium Enterprise Development centre of India (SME). SME is conducting programmes every year at Mumbai central office. . Institute  is also conducting programs in entrepreneurship development in association with  I CREATE INDIA.
  • Institute is associate life member of Jagtik Marathi chamber of Commerce and Industry. MCED has selected our Institute as an authorized training Institute for imparting advance technical training for self employment generation.
  • A separate Entrepreneurship Library has been established under TEQIP Phase I with the help of EDI and MCED. Adequate number of books related to identifying business opportunities, market survey, project report preparation, financial management and technology are made available worth Rs. 85,000/- for budding engineering entrepreneurs.
  • Faculty development programme on entrepreneurship are organized  regularly for staff.
  • Interaction with successful entrepreneurs ,EAC ,Motivational programs  are arranged every year as per module designed .
  •  Product Innovation & Development Centre - Students from any branch can work on their own ideas in order to develop their own products. For this, facilities such as material, manufacturing facilities and CAD facilities are made available. This club is open for students other than college time and on holidays also.
  • Institute has been selected under DST – NIMAT Project 2012 – 13 For conducting Programmes in ENTERPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT. Grants Rs. 1,45,000/- sanctioned.
  • Entrepreneurship Development Program was organized for 3 weeks in summer vacation as finishing school for 15 students who opted their career as Entrepreneur. 
  • QEEE Smart Class
  • The Committee for Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE)under the chairmanship of Professor Ashok Jhunjhunwala, IIT Madras, has been constituted by the Ministry of HRD with a mandate to bring about comprehensive reforms in technical education. Under this, the Direct to Student program has been offered to utilize high quality pedagogical resources to enhance learning in a wider student community. Integration of top quality resources in the form of instructors from IITs and multimedia resources has been adopted. Our institute RIT was selected among 100 engineering college in India for QEEE pilot program. QEEE smart class room with a capacity of 120 students has been established with ultra-modern infrastructure in the institute. Ten QEEE live classes were conducted last semester through webinars by highly rated IIT Professors and it has been continued for the subsequent semesters. 
  • Monitoring Cell 
  • RIT has a strong academic monitoring cell that looks after monthly review of the lectures / practicals planned and conducted for every class. It ensures that parents receive the monthly attendance reports of their wards. This makes it possible to take all necessary steps to correct the lags and loopholes in the fast progressing semester.

  • RIT has strong alumni base with a wide spectrum of alumni placed in all areas of engineering from defence to public limited. companies and Government organisations to private companies. Our graduates and post-graduates are performing well in multinational companies like Mercedes, Volkswagen, Dell, Infosys and top Indian companies like Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, L & T Infotech, Bajaj, Bharat Forge, Wipro, Syntel, Mytas, Cummins Info Systems, and Nihilent. Some of them are working at research organisations like BARC, ARAI and DRDO. Students of RIT have flown to USA, UK, Canada, Australia and Germany for higher education. These alumni meet frequently at the forum of RIT Alumni Association.  

RIT- SPEED (A Student Platform for Engineering Education and Development)

RIT SPEED is an official wing of Community & Social Responsibility (CSR). It is an integral part of IUCEE-SPEED, INDIA. Inspired by Vigyan Ashram, PABAL, RIT SPEED provides platform with its numerous initiatives for the society to share their problems. Our students work toward giving Engineering Solutions to these problems. RIT-SPEED is initiated, run and governed by the students. RIT Renewable Energy Club

In order to create awareness about new and renewable sources of energy among students, in January 2006 RIT has opened Renewable Energy Club under the guidelines provided by Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources. The club has been registered at Maharashtra Energy Development Agency

Every year this club organizes events like seminars, workshops, expert lectures, poster and essay competition, and field visits to renewable energy projects in the vicinity. Also the club is celebrating Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas on August 20th.

RIT Nature Club

With the objective to uphold interest about wildlife and the environment among students the club has been started in 2005. The club works toward creating awareness among students about scientific and economic values of nature. Students get opportunities to serve the objective of protection and conservation of natural environment through various activities of the club like tree plantation, celebrating non-vehicle day in the institute, trekking and PUC testing programs.

Club is the member of WWF. It is the largest eco club in WWF, Kolhapur Division. The club is celebrating World Environment Day on June 5th every year.

Girl Students' Development Cell

This cell cares for the specific needs of girl students. An Indian woman proudly distinguishes herself in her understanding toward living life, faiths and values. The cell has successfully directed them. Despite the programs like health counseling, lectures on social justice to women, the cell has presented some beautiful performance through its popular feature “Shardanyas”. 

Its objective is to inculcate and develop various values, senses, capacities and skills in girl students which shall add value to their academic career.

Cultural & Youth Programs

Cultural activities and youth programmes provide opportunities for the latent potentialities of the students to find an outlet in joyous and constructive ways. The students participate in inter-college and inter-university cultural and literary competitions.

n  A popular feature "Virangula" - an annual cultural festival
n  Several awards and prizes have been fetched by students in various festivals/contests
n  "Vishwakarma" the annual magazine has nourished and promoted literacy and art talents in students.
