About Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is the oldest of the main disciplines of engineering. Civil engineering, the mother branch, has kept pace with the rapid growth in the field of technology. It is that branch of engineering which provides basic amenities required for the survival and maintenance of the environment. These civil engineers built all types of structures, design water-supply, sewer systems, railroads, highways and plan cities.

The department of civil engineering established in 1983, with capacity of 60 for under-graduate courses. At present department runs two Post Graduate programmes namely Structural Engineering (intake 24) and Construction and Management (intake 18). The Civil Engineering department has 14 well established laboratories equipped with all necessary instruments/equipment and all facilities required for providing quality education to the students and also to offer consultancy services to various private as well as government organizations.

PEO 1: Create capable graduates to pursue productive careers in private and government organizations at the national and international level..

Construction Management

PEO 1: Practice as a professional practitioner and a manager, capable of achieving needed sustainability and economic objectives through ethical practices and social responsibility.  

PEO 2: Succeed in construction management careers emphasizing applications of construction management principles with the ability to solve broad range of problems in construction.

PEO 3: Acquire, Apply and communicate latest knowledge and tools to construction industry and technical institutes in the desired form through lifelong learning.

 

Structural Engineering

PEO 1: To prepare students to get employment, profession and / or to pursue higher education in the field of structural engineering in particular and allied engineering disciplines in general. 

PEO 2: To develop the students to acquire the knowledge in breadth in order to solve mathematical problems related to analysis and design of various systems using modern tools and /or techniques, in order to utilize their skills for successful completion of the structural projects.

PEO 3: To provide students with academic environment that makes them aware of excellence and to enable them to understand the significance of lifelong learning in global perspective.

Program Outcomes

UG

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

PO1: Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2: Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

PO3: Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

PO4: Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

PO5: Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

PO6: The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PO7: Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

PO8: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

PO9: Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

PO10: Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

PO11: Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

Construction Management

PO1: An ability to independently carry out research /investigation and development work to solve practical problems.

PO2: An ability to write and present a substantial technical report/document.

PO3: Students should be able to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the area as per the specialization of the program. The mastery should be at a level higher than the requirements in the appropriate bachelor program.

PO4: An ability to Analyze, evaluate, and select computer applications for the purpose of efficient and effective construction project management.

PO5: An ability to Analyze construction projects relative to fundamental aspects of construction management (i.e., cost, schedule, quality, safety, ethics) and develop appropriate solutions

PO6: Apply ethical business principles and Demonstrate responsibility for safety planning and productivity in construction management settings.

 

Structural Engineering

PO1: An ability to independently carry out research /investigation and development work to solve practical problems.

PO2: An ability to write and present a substantial technical report/document.

PO3: Students should be able to demonstrate a degree of mastery over the area as per the specialization of the program. The mastery should be at a level higher than the requirements in the appropriate bachelor program.

PO4: An ability to design civil engineering structures and execute the projects. 

PO5: An ability to use modern tools and techniques, skills, instrumentation and software packages necessary to predict and solve complex engineering problems.
